Kristian Mørch ahead of PSV clash: "We can’t wait"

On Wednesday evening, one of the biggest games of the season so far awaits as HB Køge Women welcome PSV Eindhoven to Køge Idrætspark for the final and decisive UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying match.

The Swans head into the match in a strong position following last week’s 1-0 victory in Eindhoven. Now, the job has to be finished on home soil, and head coach Kristian Mørch makes no secret of the fact that a big night awaits.

"We can’t wait. We hope and are aiming for this to be the first of many big nights this season. Hopefully, when the season is over, we can look back on this as the night that opened the door to many great experiences," says Kristian Mørch.

One goal could be worth a lot

HB Køge Women bring a 1-0 lead back from the Netherlands after Kyra Carusa’s goal shortly before half-time in the first leg. That means PSV arrive in Køge knowing they need to chase a result.

According to Kristian Mørch, that could create some interesting opportunities for the Swans.

"It’s a big advantage, and of course it means that PSV have to chase something from the start. At the same time, we’re very aware that if we score once, they’ll have to score three times to win. It’s a good thing to have with us, knowing that one goal can be worth so much. So that’s something we’ll be going for."

The head coach does not expect PSV to arrive in Køge with a significantly different approach from the one HB Køge Women faced in Eindhoven.

"I expect more of the same and the same type of football. That actually suits us quite well because it allows us to maintain some control in the game. We felt that we created more and more opportunities against them in the first leg, and the more they have to push forward and chase something, the more space will open up for us. We’re very comfortable with that."

Ready for PSV’s attacking patterns

Despite the strong starting position, the job is far from done. PSV showed in the first leg that they can cause problems, which means HB Køge Women will once again need to be sharp defensively.

"We have to be very aware of the solutions they have in attack. They’re a team that play in a very controlled and structured way, and we need to be prepared for the patterns they use most often, just as we were in Eindhoven," says Kristian Mørch.

Hoping for strong support in Køge

Wednesday’s match will not only be a big occasion on the pitch. A special European night awaits at Køge Idrætspark, where the Swans can secure a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with victory on aggregate.

The head coach hopes plenty of supporters will be there to help create the atmosphere for the decisive encounter.

"We can’t wait to play in front of a great crowd. I think we’ve delivered a lot of highlights over the past year or so, and there’s every chance this could become another one. We’re starting to get some really good support, and I really appreciate the people who come out and support us."
