Kristian Mørch ahead of Kolding: “We’re excited to get going again”

HB Køge Women are finally back in action when the team faces Kolding IF tomorrow after the international break. Head coach Kristian Mørch says the break has been welcome after an intense period with many matches.

“It’s been nice to get the pulse down a bit and lift our heads,” Mørch says. “We’ve used the time to give extra attention to the players who haven’t had as many minutes, and at the same time we’ve been able to follow our national team players, who all performed well for their respective teams.”

“It’s also been fun to follow what else is happening in football. We’ve noticed, of course, that our women’s senior team in Køge Boldklub have secured a well-deserved promotion to the Sjællandsserie after a strong autumn, and that has made us happy during this period without matches.”

Although several players have been away with their national teams, the break has allowed for more uninterrupted training sessions. “We’ve had the opportunity to run slightly different types of sessions where we could focus on details and play more fully on two goals,” Mørch explains.

“There has also been space for more intensity and duels, and that has actually been healthy for us. It’s important that the players feel where the limits are and that some friction is allowed in training.”

Despite the value of the training sessions, the team is eager to return to match action.

“As great as training is, the games are what matter. We now have a fresh squad that has shown a high level in recent days. We are really looking forward to getting started again and showing that tomorrow.”

And tomorrow’s opponent, Kolding IF, is one the head coach has great respect for.

“Kolding are a difficult team to play against. They’ve had some big defeats, but they’ve also been close to taking points from several top teams and have actually taken points off Fortuna Hjørring. They don’t do many things, but they do them well. If you relax against them, you can be punished. So it’s about making it a match played on our terms.”

Finally, Mørch highlights what he expects from his squad when the match kicks off.

“We need high mental intensity and clear decision-making both with and without the ball. In addition, we must continue creating chances, we’ve done that all season, and if we keep doing so, the goals will come.”

Kick-off is tomorrow at 15:00, with Halloween activities available for the youngest fans. For those unable to attend at the stadium, the match will be broadcast on TV 2 Sport X.
