HB Køge Women sign 19-year-old forward Mai Wendicke from Kolding IF. Mai has been a standout profile for Kolding this autumn, where she truly made a name for herself. The young striker arrives at HB Køge Women as one of the most exciting talents in the A-Liga — something sporting director Jonas Nielsen is eager to add to the squad.

“Whenever a player makes an impact in the A-Liga in the way Mai has done this autumn, it’s natural for us to look closer at the possibilities. In our conversations about Mai, it quickly became clear that she has the potential to develop into a major profile — both in our club and, in the long term, hopefully also for the national team.

Mai possesses a rare and very complete skill set for a striker. She is physically strong, uncompromising in duels, and remarkably composed in front of goal. She can serve as a target player but also has the pace and timing needed to threaten the space behind the defence. Off the pitch, we meet a person who is patient, eager to learn, and humble in her approach to training and development. It is precisely this combination of footballing qualities and strong personal characteristics that we believe can take Mai all the way to the top level of the football world,” says sporting director Jonas Nielsen.

Last season, Mai was the top scorer in the qualification round for the A-Liga with 9 goals in 10 matches. She has carried that goalscoring form into this autumn, where her 9 goals place her third on the A-League top scorer list — only behind HB Køge Women's own Nadia Nadim with 11 goals and Fortuna Hjørring’s Omewa Joy Ogochukwu with 13.

Despite being just 19 years old, Mai has already debuted for Denmark’s U23 national team, where she has played two matches and scored once. For the U19 national team, she has five appearances and one goal.

“I chose HB Køge Women because it feels like the perfect next step in my career. The club has a very professional setup with high standards, and I can already sense the strong opportunities for both personal and sporting development here. The club’s ambitions match my own, and that means a lot to me. I am incredibly excited to get started, get to know the team, and contribute both on and off the pitch. I am ready to work hard and give everything I have for the club. I’m really looking forward to becoming a part of this,” says Mai Wendicke.

Mai will join the team when the players report back for preparations ahead of the A-Liga championship round on Wednesday, 7 January.

Welcome to HB Køge Women, Mai!
