HB Køge Women sell Cassandra Korhonen in new club-record transfer

HB Køge Women complete club-record sale of 28-year-old Swedish winger Cassandra Korhonen to English side Charlton FC, who compete in the top tier of English football.

Cassandra’s transfer surpasses the transfer of Signe Markvardsen to Bristol City earlier this month.

“Once again, we have broken our own transfer record. We received an offer that was difficult to turn down, while at the same time giving Cassandra the opportunity to take the next step in her career and pursue her dream of playing in the WSL.

“We are proud that, in just one year, we have been able to help Cassandra develop into a player who is now getting the opportunity to perform on one of the biggest stages. It is also a strong testament to the development environment we have built at HB Køge Women,” says Sporting Director Jonas Nielsen.

Cassandra joined the club last summer and went on to make 40 appearances and score seven goals for HB Køge Women. Her final goal for the club proved to be the decisive one against PSV Eindhoven, helping send HB Køge Women through to the league phase of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Cassandra also leaves the club as both a Danish champion and cup winner, having played a key role in the club’s historic success last season.

“Cassandra was the first player we signed when we began a new chapter for HB Køge Women under our new ownership, and she has since proven to be everything we hoped for – and more. Few players have been as decisive for us as Cassandra, and she demonstrated that perfectly in her final game for the club, scoring the goal against PSV Eindhoven that helped secure our place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

“We are incredibly grateful for everything Cassandra has given to the club, both on and off the pitch. We wish her and her family all the best in England and, of course, hope we get the chance to see her again when we travel to London to face Arsenal,” concludes Sporting Director Jonas Nielsen.

Everyone in and around HB Køge Women would like to thank Cassandra for her time and contribution to the club and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career.
