Friday Night Victory in Kolding

On Friday evening, HB Køge Women were finally back in the A-League after nearly three weeks off following the international break. The trip took them across both the Great Belt and the Little Belt, as the opponents were Kolding IF, and the match was played at their home ground, Autocentralen Park.

The match began with the Swans in control, and that control was quickly turned into a goal. Jereko won the ball after a build-up mistake from Kolding’s defense. She played it forward to captain Mille Gejl, who turned brilliantly with her right foot and sent Cassandra Korhonen through on goal with her left. Cassandra drove toward the byline, looked up, and cut the ball back diagonally into the box, where a completely unmarked Rikke Marie Madsen fired it into the net. A beautiful, well-worked goal and 1–0 to HB Køge Women.

It took only nine more minutes before it became 2–0. A free kick from the left side, delivered by Signe Markvardsen toward the far post, found Simone Boye first to the ball. Boye managed to send it back into the box, where after a bit of a scramble, it fell to Ida Marie Jørgensen, who from close range slotted it home to make it 2–0.

The Swans were also closest to the next goal of the match when Jereko unleashed a shot that struck the junction of post and crossbar. That meant the teams went into halftime with HB Køge Women leading 2–0.

The second half was a quieter affair, with the Swans standing strong defensively while controlling the play on the pitch. HB Køge Women also created a couple of chances, but none that truly came close to finding the back of the net. Therefore, there is not much to report from the second half, apart from Silje Simonsen getting her first minutes of the season for HB Køge Women.

The 2–0 victory means the Swans remain in 1st place in the A-League, with a nine-point lead over second-placed Brøndby IF, who do have a game in hand.

HB Køge Women’s next challenge is away against FC Nordsjælland on Sunday, May 3rd, with kickoff at 11:30.
