Defeat in the last regular season match

There was a top-of-the-table clash in the final round of the A-Liga regular season as HB Køge Women travelled to North Jutland to face Fortuna Hjørring. With a match between the league’s first- and second-place teams, everything was set for an intense showdown.

The match began with a good chance for the home side already after a minute and a half, but the effort went over the bar. After that, the Swans grew into the game, and most of the first half was played on HB Køge Women’s terms. They created several good chances, but none of them caused any real problems for the home goalkeeper. The first half therefore ended without any goals – setting the stage for a more eventful second half.

And that’s exactly what happened. The second half had barely begun before HB Køge Women took a 1–0 lead. Nadia Nadim played a ball into the box, which was blocked by a Fortuna defender. However, she failed to control it, and Marta Lacho reacted quickest. One-on-one with the keeper, she delicately lifted the ball past her and into the net – giving the Swans the lead in North Jutland.

After just over an hour of play, the home side equalised. A ball was played into the space behind HB Køge’s defence, where an unmarked Fortuna player was able to slot it past Alberte Vingum, who had rushed out in an attempt to close down the angle. Just six minutes later came the home team's second goal. Jereko received the ball from Alberte Vingum in front of her own box, but league top scorer Joy Omewa came charging from behind, stole the ball, and calmly struck it into the net for 2–1.

HB Køge Women pushed hard for an equaliser, and there were good opportunities to get one. Two strong efforts that hit the post and a possible penalty that was not awarded meant that the Swans could not find the breakthrough in North Jutland. The match therefore ended 2–1 to Fortuna Hjørring, who with the win are now three points behind HB Køge Women – who, despite the defeat, still finish as winners of the A-League regular season.
