Comfortable win in the season opener

Defending Danish champions HB Køge Women got their A-Liga campaign off to the perfect start on Tuesday evening with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly promoted FC Copenhagen at Vanløse Idrætspark.

HB Køge Women took control of the match from the outset, and after 17 minutes they found the breakthrough. Debutant Zuzanna Witek delivered a perfectly weighted through ball to Kyra Carusa, who calmly rounded the FC Copenhagen goalkeeper before slotting home the opening goal of the new season.

Just before the break, the visitors doubled their advantage. This time, Kyra Carusa turned provider, picking out Emelía Óskarsdóttir at the far post. The Icelandic forward, who spent the spring season on loan at FC Copenhagen, powered a header into the net to make it 2-0. The home side struggled to create clear-cut chances, allowing HB Køge Women to head into halftime with a deserved two-goal lead.

The Swans continued to dictate proceedings after the restart. While clear opportunities were limited, Cassandra Korhonen put the result beyond doubt with the third goal of the evening. The Swedish forward was played through down the left and opted to go for goal herself, confidently finishing to seal a 3-0 win.

New signing Lauren Kozal enjoyed a composed debut between the posts, but still showed her quality with an excellent save when called into action. Sarah Thygesen also found the back of the net, though her effort was ruled out for offside.

It was an impressive opening performance from HB Køge Women, who delivered a dominant display to begin the new campaign with three well-deserved points.

The Swans are back in action on Saturday when they host ASA Aarhus in their first home match of the season at Køge Idrætspark. Kick-off is at 1:00 PM.
