HB Køge Women is proud to announce that the club has reached an agreement with 30-year-old forward Kyra Carusa (KY-rah Kah-ROO-sah).
The signing of Kyra Carusa represents a significant reinforcement of the HB Køge Women squad and supports the club’s ambition to remain among the leading teams in Danish women’s football.
Kyra Carusa enjoyed great sporting success during her first spell at HB Køge Women, scoring 37 goals in 79 appearances and playing a central role on the team that won two Danish championships in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons.
In addition, she wore the captain’s armband, competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage, and was named HB Køge Women Player of the Year in 2020.
“It is with great joy and pride that we can welcome Kyra Carusa back to HB Køge Women. Kyra needs no major introduction in Køge.
During her three years at the club, she left a historic mark as both a leader and a goal scorer, and she was a central part of the promotion and the two championships she helped achieve.
For Kyra, there was almost only one thing in the HB Køge Women jersey: winning! That mentality followed her out into the world, and it continued in the U.S., where in her first season with San Diego Wave FC she helped secure the club’s first-ever title, the Shield.
Kyra is a winner and perhaps even more importantly: one of the strongest leaders, personalities, and culture carriers in HB Køge Women’s ten-year history,” says Jonas Nielsen, Sporting Director at HB Køge Women, and continues:
“That is why Kyra’s return feels bigger than just a transfer. It is a tenth-anniversary birthday gift to HB Køge Women and to all the fans who have followed the club since day one – all the way back to Serie 1 – and who have helped make this journey possible.
We are incredibly proud to once again write Kyra Carusa onto the roster and look forward to seeing her once again become a decisive part of the story we are writing together. Welcome home, Kyra!”
After departing HB Køge Women in 2023, Kyra Carusa continued her career in England with London City Lionesses, before moving on to her hometown of San Diego and San Diego Wave FC in the American NWSL.
In 2020, Kyra Carusa chose to represent Ireland, for whom she has since earned 32 caps. She started all three of Ireland’s matches at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
For Kyra Carusa, HB Køge Women holds a very special place:
“When I left the club back in 2023, I always knew I would come back. HB Køge Women became my second home, and it is a place that played a major role in my development as both a person and a player.
The timing feels right now because both the club and I have grown. I am returning with more experience and perspective, and I am excited to once again be part of a program that has always believed in me.
I am extremely excited to once again work with a club that is not afraid to challenge the world around it and do what others say is impossible. Just like in previous chapters of the club’s history, I will be the one who pushes, fights, and believes that this club can surprise the world. We have done it before, and we will do it again.”
HB Køge Women looks forward to welcoming Kyra Carusa into the squad after the summer break, where her experience, drive, and winning mentality will once again come into play from the fall season in the A-League.
