The final match of the year awaits tomorrow, as HB Køge Women host AGF in the quarterfinal of the Women’s Cup at Capelli Sport Stadion. Head coach Kristian Mørch is looking forward to the match — and to the opportunity to finish the autumn on a strong note.
“We’ve been looking forward to this. It’s a really good opportunity to round off a strong half-season, and we believe we have a good chance of delivering a strong performance. We’ve had a couple of good training sessions with the whole squad back, so the mood is positive, and we’re excited for the game.”
AGF come into the match in excellent form with four straight wins, but Kristian points out that their development hasn’t come out of nowhere.
“In many ways, they’ve continued down the same path they started on. They’re difficult to create big chances against, as they often defend with five at the back, and they’ve become sharper in their transitions, where they’ve been very effective.”
However, HB Køge Women have had the upper hand in recent meetings.
“We’ve been very solid defensively and have controlled large parts of the games. We’ve hardly allowed a single chance over the last two matches against them. That’s what we need to go out and repeat. On top of that, we’ve looked at how we can create a few more open opportunities against them. But it may still be difficult if they don’t push higher up the pitch.”
Although tomorrow’s match does not define the entire autumn, it means a lot to the team.
“Of course, our whole autumn doesn’t stand or fall with a cup match in December, but in every way, we’re determined to go out and win. Both to secure more matches in the spring — where we currently only have 10 guaranteed — and because we want to keep building on what we’ve achieved so far.”
Finally, the head coach sends a message to the club’s fans:
“We really appreciate when people come to the stadium. We want so much to entertain, and it’s simply more fun to entertain others than just ourselves. We really hope people will come and support the girls, especially now that we’ve won the regular season again — something the club hasn’t done for a while,” Kristian concludes.
