Convincing victory in the season's first home match

HB Køge Women welcomed newly promoted ASA Aarhus to Køge Idrætspark on Saturday afternoon for the team's first home match of the season. The visitors arrived full of confidence after defeating local rivals AGF in their league opener, but the reigning Danish champions quickly showed the difference in quality and secured an emphatic 4-0 victory.

From the opening whistle, it was clear which way the match was heading. HB Køge Women dominated possession and pinned ASA back inside their own half.

The breakthrough came after just ten minutes. Sarah Thygesen received the ball on the left flank, and what initially looked like a cross turned into an effort on goal that caught the ASA goalkeeper off guard. Although she managed to get a hand to the ball, she couldn't keep it out, giving HB Køge Women a 1-0 lead.

The home side continued to control the game, and for a long time it looked as though they would take a narrow lead into the break. However, two quick goals just before half-time put the match firmly out of reach.

In the 44th minute, Catherine Paulson collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area, cut inside onto her left foot and curled a superb strike into the far top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Just one minute later, Kyra Carusa added her name to the scoresheet. Sarah Thygesen delivered a cross to the near post, where Carusa brilliantly flicked the ball into the net with a clever backheel finish to make it 3-0. Two outstanding goals gave HB Køge Women a commanding advantage at the interval.

Head coach Kristian Mørch made two substitutions at half-time, with Emelía Óskarsdóttir replacing Kyra Carusa. The Icelandic forward would later have the final say in the match.

HB Køge Women continued to dominate after the break and created chance after chance. Mai Wendicke came close to adding another goal, but her effort crashed against the crossbar.

The final goal arrived in stoppage time. A corner from Zuzanna Witek was delivered to the far post, where an ASA defender failed to clear the danger. The loose ball fell kindly to Emelía Óskarsdóttir, who calmly slotted home to seal a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

The win gives HB Køge Women the perfect start to the new A-Liga season, with six points from their opening two matches and top spot in the league table.

The next challenge comes on Wednesday as UEFA Women's Champions League football returns to Køge Idrætspark. HB Køge Women host Latvian side Riga FC, with kick-off at 7:00 PM.
